Weather Report was a cursed band most of it having to do with how legendary bassist Jaco was mistreated, and not only on a few occasions. First off, Jaco should have been untouchable, the bona fide #1 bassist of the band. A band must have a core of musicians who are the face of the band. That has everything to do with fan loyalty and band identity. There are many bands out there that are talented, but they go through musicians like underwear, and it fucks up the identity of the band. You want to latch on as a fan, but you don't really know who you are latching on to. Product brand is everything! Just imagine McDonald's, Apple Computer, IBM, Levi's, etc., People are loyal to brands that stand the test of time, and whose quality is never compromised.

Weather Report can only be best described as an 'enigma' of musical bands, the totality of it'a apparatus was far, far greater than the sum of it parts. This band is inexplicable really. Their music leaves one bewildered. They took the 'chaos' out of their music, and sprinkled in different musical metrics and flavours, tonal hybrids, exotic musical phrasings, themes and hues, and turned their songs into a critical mass of spirited, tantalizing, chaotic, thought provoking, but a perfectly stylized musical masterpieces. Weather Report's music will transport you to an ethereal nirvana land of mesmerizingly hypnotic surprises of unmatched fusion music!

Heavy Weather is the seventh album by Weather Report, released in 1977 through Columbia Records. The release originally sold about 500,000 copies; it would prove to be the band's most commercially successful album. Heavy Weather received a 5-star review from DownBeat magazine and went on to be voted jazz album of the year by the readers of that publication. On this album the lineup consisted of Weather Report founders Joe Zawinul (keyboards, synthesizers) and Wayne Shorter (saxophone), alongside Jaco Pastorius (bass), Alex Acuña (drums), and Manolo Badrena (percussion). It was produced and orchestrated by Zawinul, with additional production by Shorter and Pastorius, and engineered by Ron Malo. Featuring the jazz standard "Birdland", the album is one of the best sellers in the Columbia jazz catalog. This opening track was a significant commercial success, something not typical of instrumental music. The melody had been performed live by the band as part of "Dr Honoris Causa", which was from Joe Zawinul's eponymous solo album. "Teen Town", a Pastorius composition where his bass takes the lead instrument role, is often considered a highlight of the album and of Pastorius's career.
